Why aren't shares being automated?
Why aren't shares being automated?
There are a few reasons why your page might not be sharing automatically. This article will be divided into three sections based on your page’s settings:
- New shares and/or reshares
- Reshares only
- New shares only
The new shares and/or reshares section refers to issues that can affect pages regardless of share type settings i.e pages with only new shares enabled, pages with only reshares enabled, and pages that have both new shares and reshares enabled.
The reshares section refers to specific issues that can affect pages with only reshares enabled as well as pages with both new shares and reshares enabled but only have articles eligible for reshares.
The new shares section refers to specific issues that can affect pages using only new shares as well as pages with both new shares and reshares enabled but only have articles eligible for new shares.
New shares and reshares
Automated sharing is disabled
Automated sharing must be enabled for it to make shares. This can be enabled be setting 'share recommendations automatically' in your page's automation settings.
Schedule periods don’t include current time window
If using schedule periods and the current day is not selected, then no shares will be made. You can check this in the schedule periods section of your page's automation settings.
No RSS feeds connected to the page
Automated sharing requires the page have access to at least one RSS feed. Ensure that an RSS feed is connected by checking the content feeds section of the property settings.
Content from any domain setting is disabled
If none of the article URLs in your RSS feeds match your domain’s root URL then the Content from any domain should appear in Echobox setting must be enabled. For example if your domain’s root URL is “www.example.co.uk” and you are trying to share articles from “www.example.com” or “www.another-example.co.uk” then this setting must be enabled. This setting can be found in the content feeds section of the property settings.
Daily target already reached
Automated sharing may have stopped because your page's daily target has been reached already. There is a separate daily target for both new shares and reshares. When using “Optimal” mode these values are dynamically adjusted to ensure optimal performance. These values can also be modified by using Custom new share and reshare modes which can be selected and edited in new shares and reshares settings.
Note that when using Optimal mode that manual shares count towards the daily target so it is possible to hit the limit by sharing manually, resulting in our automation making no shares.
All Articles are missing titles
All articles must have valid RSS or OG titles to be shared.
All Articles are older than the Max Article Age setting
Articles will only be shared if their publishing date falls within the Max Article Age threshold. Under Optimal, this is 24 hours and 15 days for new shares and reshares, respectively. These thresholds can be modified by using custom new share and reshare modes which can be selected and edited in the new shares and reshares settings.
All Articles break Keyword Rules
Keyword rules are rules such as Articles with certain keywords in the RSS title should not be shared which have lists of associated keywords. These lists of keywords are empty by default with new shares and reshares having separate keyword rules which can be found and modified in the new shares and reshares settings.
Only Breaking News older than 1 hour available
If there are only articles which are classified as breaking news available and their publishing date is over an hour old then they are considered outdated and will not be shared.
New shares
All articles have already been shared once
If all of the articles have already been shared previously then they can only be shared again if reshares is enabled. Reshares can be enabled and disabled in the reshares section of the page's automation settings.
Reshares
No more content to reshare
It is possible that there is no more content to share. An article will not be scheduled for sharing if it has previously been deleted from the scheduled queue by a user or if the Approvals setting is enabled and the user has previously skipped the article. If there are articles which have not met the max reshares limit, then it’s possible that they are still failing to meet the max time between reshares requirement.
No articles have been previously shared
If none of the articles have been shared before then they can only be shared as a new share. new shares can be enabled and disabled in the new shares settings section of the page's automation settings.
Max reshares per article reached
If all articles have already been shared as many times as allowed then we will not make any shares. If using Optimal mode then the max reshares per article is 1. This number can be changed if using custom mode which can be selected and edited in the reshares section of the page's automation settings.
Max article age threshold is less than the minimum time between shares of the same article setting
If the Articles older than this should not be reshared setting is less than the Minimum between shares of the same article setting, then we will not reshare any articles at all. These settings can be found and edited if using custom mode which can be selected and edited in the reshares section of the page's automation settings.
No articles are classified as Evergreen but the Reshare Evergreen Articles Only setting is enabled
If the Reshare Evergreen Articles Only setting is enabled in custom mode but no articles are classified as Evergreen then no shares will be made. This setting can be found in the reshares section of the page's automation settings. Consider adding an older evergreen article to a linked RSS feed to see if it gets added to the scheduled queue.
