How to reduce Facebook Page disconnections ("checkpoint" errors)
If your Facebook Pages occasionally disconnect from Echobox, this is often caused by Facebook triggering a security checkpoint on the Facebook account that was used to connect the Page.
These checkpoints are controlled entirely by Facebook. They are typically triggered when Facebook detects unusual or inconsistent login behaviour and temporarily blocks third‑party access as a precaution.
While Echobox cannot prevent Facebook checkpoints, you can significantly reduce how often they occur by following the guidance below.
What causes Facebook checkpoint disconnections?
Based on our analysis, checkpoints are most commonly triggered when:
- A Facebook admin account is used across many devices or browsers
- The same Facebook login is shared between multiple people
- The Facebook account is accessed from frequently changing locations
- Logins occur via VPNs or untrusted/public networks
When Facebook flags this behaviour, it may temporarily revoke access for connected tools like Echobox, causing Pages to disconnect.
Best practices to avoid Facebook checkpoints
1. Use a single, dedicated Facebook admin account
The Facebook account used to connect Pages to Echobox should:
- Be owned and used by one individual only
- Not be shared across multiple employees
- Be used consistently for Page reconnections
Shared Facebook logins are one of the most common triggers for checkpoints.
2. Keep login behaviour consistent
Try to keep Facebook login patterns as stable as possible:
- Use the same device and browser whenever you can
- Avoid frequently switching between phones, laptops, or browsers
- Do not regularly clear cookies or browser storage for Facebook
Logging in from many different devices increases the likelihood that Facebook will flag the account.
3. Avoid VPNs and unstable networks
Facebook is more likely to trigger security checks when logins come from changing or untrusted locations.
We recommend:
- Avoiding VPNs when logging into Facebook
- Using stable home or office Wi‑Fi
- Avoiding public or shared Wi‑Fi networks (e.g. cafés, hotels, airports)
4. Don’t share responsibility for Page connections
If multiple people manage your social media output:
- Do not rotate Facebook logins between team members
- Assign one person to own the Facebook admin account used for Echobox
- Other team members can still manage Pages through Facebook’s own role system
This keeps third‑party access stable while allowing team collaboration.
5. Spread risk across admins (for multiple Pages)
If your organisation manages many Facebook Pages:
- Consider connecting different Pages using different Facebook admins
- This reduces the risk of all Pages disconnecting at once
- Over time, you may notice that some admin accounts are less prone to checkpoints
This approach can help with resilience for large or distributed teams.
Important to note
- Facebook checkpoints are not caused by Echobox
- They are enforced by Facebook’s own security systems
- Repeated disconnections usually indicate Facebook account behaviour that looks risky to Facebook
Following the steps above will not guarantee that checkpoints never occur, but it will significantly reduce how often they happen.
If your Page does disconnect, you can reconnect it once the Facebook account has successfully passed Facebook’s security check.
If you continue to experience frequent disconnections after following this guidance, please contact our support team with details of the Facebook admin account being used, and we’ll help investigate further.
