How do you know when someone interacts with my email?
How do you know when someone interacts with my email?
Echobox uses Amazon Web Services 'Simple Email Service' (SES) for sending emails on Echobox Email. When someone interacts with an email, SES logs this and returns that information to us to help inform our algorithms.
How do I see when someone has come to my website from a newsletter?
We can help you see when someone has landed on your website from one of your newsletters in your web traffic viewer, such as Google Analytics. To facilitate this, we automatically append UTM tags to every article included in an Echobox Edition. Here is an example of an article URL with these tags included:

utm_campaign=the-red-devils&utm_medium=email&utm_edition=202212070200&utm_source=newsletter
The tags we include are:
- utm_campaign — The Campaign you are sending from
- utm_medium=email — Information that a subscriber has clicked in from an email
- utm_edition — A unique identifier for each Edition you send out
- utm_source=newsletter — Confirmation that the subscriber has come from one of your newsletters
UTM tags cannot be changed. If you change them manually when editing an article and click Save, they are reverted to their default setting.
Why do links look strange in Editions?
When you hover over a link in a sent Edition, you may see that it appears to be in an unusual format, such as:
This link is automatically generated by Amazon Web Services. It ensures that we can track when someone clicks a link in an email. This whole process is GDPR compliant in accordance with our DPA and means that we can personalize content on a per-subscriber basis by tracking what individual subscribers are interested in.
If you click on the link, it should take you to the publisher website with a normal-looking URL, such as:
