Evergreen Uploads
What is an Evergreen upload?
Evergreen content is content with a longer lifespan, for example, articles that don’t discuss current affairs. Unlike breaking news, it doesn’t need to be shared quickly and can usually be reshared multiple times over a longer period.
In Echobox, you can upload an archive of old Evergreen articles to increase the amount of re-shareable content to which the Autofeed has access.
How to upload the archive
To upload your archive of content, you can fill in this template and send it to support@echobox.com with details on which page and RSS feed the archive upload is for. If you have any questions, please refer to the “Examples of proper formatting for your uploads” section below.
The Autofeed can only reshare an archive article if:
- The RSS feed the archive is associated with is connected to the page
- The article meets all other requirements of the Autofeed
How does it work?
When you upload your archive, Echobox will append the articles to an RSS feed. This means that the articles from the archive will be associated with an RSS feed internally tied to your Echobox. Only those Pages associated with this RSS feed will have access to this article set.
Any articles in your RSS feed classified as Evergreen are eligible as reshares, not just those uploaded in an archive.
If you remove the RSS Feed with which the archive upload is associated from your Page, the uploaded content will also be removed.
Why should I use an Evergreen archive?
If you have a collection of older articles you would like Echobox to reshare, this is a great option for you. Maybe you have a list of articles that Echobox has already shared but you have not been using the Evergreen classification in the past. By uploading an archive of these articles, you can reclassify them en masse as Evergreen so that the Autofeed can consider them for resharing.
Examples of proper formatting for your uploads
A good example of an Evergreen upload is a CSV file following this template . Important things to look out for in uploading your articles to the CSV are:
- Your article publish dates are correct. This allows Echobox to accurately share your articles and make sure that the ‘Maximum age’ parameter is not accidentally misused.
- Your days and months are not reversed. We use the standard format of DD/MM/YYYY.
- Your days and months are not shortened. Each should be two digits, e.g. 23/05/2019, not 23/5/2019.
- Your hours are in 24-hour format. The correct formatting would be 05:36:00 or 17:36:00, not 5:36:00 for PM.
FAQ
Why is my Evergreen content not being reshared?
Your Evergreen content may not be resharing due to a few potential situations. First, your Evergreen content needs to be shared at least once before it can be reshared. If an Evergreen archive article has not been shared before to your Page it is considered a New Share. When an article has been shared once, it is then eligible for Reshare.
Why have my Evergreen Uploads disappeared?
Did you switch or delete RSS feeds? When you upload an Evergreen archive, Echobox appends those articles to the RSS feed that you specify. In other words, it is as if Echobox saw the Evergreen articles previously on that RSS Feed. So, when you delete the RSS feed or switch which feed is associated with your Page, just as you lose all the articles fed into your Page through the feed, you also lose the archive articles that were associated with that feed.
